JOLIET, IL | Local 710 Teamsters at Mahoney are standing strong through the third week of their Unfair Labor Practice Strike against their employer, which began on December 17.

“This strike has forged a bond that’s rare but powerful,” said Business Agent Mike Ramirez. “This unit is stronger today than we were on day one, confirming the old adage, ‘One day longer, one day stronger!’”

The employer has not yet reached out to the Union to return to the bargaining table. The members voted overwhelmingly to strike after Mahoney made an offer that divided the bargaining unit.

“Our members have made it clear that they are in this for the long haul, and they have the full support of Local 710 and the IBT,” said Secretary-Treasurer Mike Cales. “I am proud that our Union has strike funds for this exact reason – it means that members don’t have to worry as much about supporting their families when they make the difficult but much needed decision to go out on strike.”

“What’s also impressive is that this is a unit that is brand new to the Teamsters,” said President Del Schaefer. “While going on strike isn’t the first impression we want to give as a Union, these workers have proven that they’re not afraid to jump right in and stand up for what they deserve.”

Mahoney services hundreds of customers across the Chicagoland area, including Navy Pier and Soldier Field, as well as Lettuce Entertain You restaurants and several major fast food chains such as McDonald’s, Portillo’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Wingstop, White Castle, and Culver’s. The workers empty containers full of used cooking oil and clean out grease traps at those establishments.
