Teamsters Local 710 UPS Members Overwhelmingly Ratify 5-Year Agreement
710 Members Vote in Record Turnout for Beneficial New Contract
MOKENA, IL | Teamsters Local 710 members at UPS have overwhelmingly ratified their new collective bargaining agreement by 77.05%. Of the 7,227 eligible voters, 5112 cast their vote, representing a record-setting 70.7% of the membership participating.
“This new contract is a huge win for all our members, and our participation shows that 710 members will have their voices heard,” said 710 President and Bargaining Chairman Del Schaefer. “Again, I’d like to thank our 710 Bargaining Committee for keeping this employer accountable all throughout negotiations. They did a tremendous job fighting for every member in every classification at the bargaining table, and all our members should be proud of the work they did. The benefits the Teamsters have secured for UPSers across the country are life-changing to so many of our members.”
The new agreement is effective August 1, 2023 through July 31, 2028, and includes improvements throughout the entire agreement that benefit members in every classification:
- Unprecedented wage increases for all existing part-time and full-time members of at least $7.50 per hour over the life of the contract – including a minimum year-one increase of $2.75 per hour (including members in progression or under an MRA)
- New hire rate of $21 (with existing part-timers increasing to no less than $21), advancing to $23 per hour
- 25.13s will be reclassified immediately as Regular Package Car Drivers – ending the two-tier pay scale
- Martin Luther King Day will be added as a holiday
- No forced overtime for Drivers on 6th or 7th days in facilities with 6-day delivery
- More members will be allowed off on optional days and single vacation days – and the Company cannot deny your request for those days
- Mechanics with at least 15 years seniority will be able to bid into Feeders
- Improved wages for Mechanics
- Reduction to the use of Surepost
- Improved arbitration procedure that will ensure shorter wait times for a decision, including a standing arbitrator at panel for discipline cases
- Additional 10-minute paid break for part-timers who work more than 7 hours
- Secured double time for Sleeper Teams for all hours worked on holidays
- Improved on-call language and bidding for Sleeper Teams
“It has been an absolute privilege working alongside our stewards and 710 representatives on this negotiating committee from start to finish,” said Secretary-Treasurer Mike Cales. “We worked diligently to engage the membership, and this vote turnout has showed this employer that 710 members will not be ignored. It shows our members are fired up and prepared to stand up to this employer now more than ever. Our 710 team is looking forward to enforcing this new contract.”
Local 710 represents UPS Teamsters at 46 centers across the entire states of Illinois and Indiana, as well as Davenport, Iowa.
