THE NOMINATIONS MEETING FOR OFFICERS AND BUSINESS AGENTS
OF LOCAL 710 WILL BE VIRTUAL AND NOT AT AN IN-PERSON MEETING

A Special Virtual Membership Meeting of Local 710 IBT will be held for the purpose of nominating candidates for Secretary-Treasurer (Principal Officer), President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, three (3) Trustees and five (5) Business Agents of Local 710 IBT. The terms of office for these officers will begin on January 1, 2021 and will end on December 31, 2023. The meeting will be held on:

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE APPEAR BELOW

Nominations should be made and seconded at the Nominations Meeting by a member in good standing other than the nominee. A member unable to attend the virtual Nominations Meeting may nominate or second a nomination in writing. A member must accept his/her nomination at the virtual meeting or, if unable to attend, in writing. Any such written nominations, seconds and acceptances must be received by the Secretary-Treasurer by 4:30 PM no later than Friday, September 4, 2020 c/o Local 710, 9000 West 187th Street. All documents can also be emailed to the Secretary-Treasurer at election@teamsters710.org to be received no later than 4:30 PM CT on September 4, 2020.

To nominate or second a candidate or otherwise participate in the nomination meeting, a member must be in good standing with his/her dues paid up through the month of August 2020 and must be an active member on the day of the nomination meeting. Eligibility to nominate or second a nomination may be restored by full payment of dues and initiation fee arrearages on or before Friday, September 4, 2020 at 4:30 PM at the main office of Local 710. Prospective candidates are advised to verify their eligibility with the Secretary-Treasurer, in advance of the nomination meeting. Following the initial review of eligibility of all nominated candidates, a meeting for all candidates will take place immediately following nominations with the representative from Global Election Services. A separate “virtual meeting room on Zoom” will allow only nominated candidates to enter. Election rules will be available by emailing election@teamsters710.org or by emailing maralin@voteges.com In addition, Nomination and Slate Declaration Forms can be requested by emailing election@teamsters710.org or emailing maralin@voteges.com.

ALL NOMINATION FORMS (OR INDIVIDUAL NOMINATION, SECONDS AND ACCEPTANCES) ALONG WITH SLATE AFFILIATION FORMS, MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE SECRETARY-TREASURER AS MENTIONED ABOVE BY 4:30 ON SEPTEMBER 4, 2020.

To be eligible to be elected for any office in Local 710, a member must be in continuous good standing in Local 710 and actively employed in a craft within the jurisdiction of Local 710 for a period of 24 consecutive months prior to September 2020 and must be eligible to hold office if elected. This requirement includes the timely payment of dues for the 24-month period, together with no interruption in active membership in Local 710 because of suspension, expulsions, withdrawals, transfers or failure to pay fines or assessments. Candidates shall have the right to campaign and appear on the ballot as members of a slate.

A member on dues check off will not lose good standing as a result of a delay or default in the employer’s transmittal of dues to the Local Union or because of an employer’s failure to make the proper deductions in any month in which the member has earnings from which deductions could have been made. Members in a reserve component of the military or National Guard who are called to active service lasting more than thirty (30) days but not more than twenty-four (24) consecutive months, may have their eligibility determined in accordance with Article II, Section 4(a)(4) of the International Constitution.

This election shall be held in accordance with the Local 710 Bylaws, the IBT Constitution, and the election rules adopted by the Executive Board, which are available upon request at the Local 710 office. Elected officers of Local 710 shall, by virtue of such election, be delegates to the Joint Council.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Election for Officers and Business Agents of Local 710 shall be by a secret ballot, conducted by mail referendum. The printing, mailing, receiving and tabulating of all ballots shall be conducted by Global Election Services. In order to vote in the election, a member must be in good standing and have paid his/her dues through September 2020. Members may pay all dues arrearages, initiation or reinstatement fees, at the Local 710 main office until 4:30 PM on October 16, 2020.

Ballots will be mailed to each active member of Local 710, at that member’s last known address, on or about September 18, 2020. Returned voted ballots from members of Local 710 must be received in the designated post office box no later than 9 AM on October 19, 2020 in order to be counted in this election.

Members who do not receive a ballot in the mail by September 24, 2020, may request a replacement ballot be sent to them. Members can telephone Global Election Services at 1-800 864-1263 Monday through Friday from 9AM to 5PM Central Time from September 24, 2020 until 12 Noon on October 9, 2020 to request a duplicate ballot., The member must call personally and will receive a confirmation number. If more than one ballot is received from a member, the ballot marked “duplicate” will be accepted. The ballots will be tabulated at the Local 710 Hall on October 19, 2020 immediately following the pickup of mail at the designated Post Office. If the Coronavirus Pandemic does not permit gatherings at the tabulation, an email will be sent to all candidates with updated information.
