Local 710 Fills Hundreds of Bottles of Hand Sanitizer to Distribute to Members
Teamsters Local 238 Connects 710 to Bulk Distributor to Help Members Stay Safe on the Job
DAVENPORT, IA | Teamsters Local 710 purchased a bulk order of hand sanitizer to help members on the front lines serving as essential workers to keep our country moving forward.
Secretary-Treasurer Mike Cales contacted Local 238 Secretary-Treasurer Jesse Case in April after seeing that Case was distributing hundreds of gallons of sanitizer to their members in Iowa. Case was able to connect 710 to a distillery who has switched to producing hand sanitizer amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, and he met up with 710 in Davenport, Iowa to deliver it.
“I want to thank Brother Case and Local 238 for their help,” said Cales. “Not only has it been tricky to get sanitizer in large amounts, but it’s also been hard to find bottles to divide it up and share it with our members. Working with 238 just goes to show that Teamsters always have each others’ backs, and we’re all in this together.”
Local 710 purchased 100 gallons of sanitizer and pump bottles to fill. Cales and Case were joined by Local 710 President Del Schaefer, Recording Secretary John Rule, Trustee Mike Sanchez, and UPS Steward Brandon Sanchez to begin divvying up the sanitizer and distribute to the Local 710 UPS members in Davenport.
Back at the 710 Union Hall, BSA Troop 32 Scouts Rory Flanagan, son of Tom Flanagan, 710 member at Pac Rail in Bedford Park, and Natalie Ramirez, daughter of Business Agent Mike Ramirez, volunteered their time to help fill hundreds of bottles that are being distributed to the members. Both Scouts practiced safe social distancing while working and only stood together for a couple of quick photos.
If you are a member of Local 710, please contact your Business Agent if you are in need of hand sanitizer. Current supplies are limited.
