Local 710 Hosts Union Get-Together at UPS Rockford
Teamsters Meet with Agents and Officers, Increase Union Involvement
ROCKFORD, IL | Teamsters Local 710 Representatives were on site at the UPS Rockford Air Hub last Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning. Members grabbed a hot dog while meeting with their Business Agents and Officers and discussing working conditions.
“Events like these are great to open up additional communications with our members and increase membership involvement in the Local,” said Secretary-Treasurer Mike Cales. “It’s extremely important that our members know their Union is always here when they need us, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Plus, as an added bonus, the employers see the strength of our Local and the solidarity we’ve built together.”
The Local invited representatives from TeamCare to be on site as well to assist members with any questions they had regarding their health insurance.
“UPS Rockford is a huge operation where 710 represents the largest group of members under one roof,” said Business Agent Simon McNamara. “With us setting up shop for more than 15 hours in the parking lot, we were available to reach every shift as they started or left for the day. It was great to see so many members and to get them more engaged with the Union.”
At Rockford, Local 710 is also kicked off an effort to increase communications to the members by updating roster information to keep members up to date on the latest news of the Union.
“With a Local as large and widespread as ours, we are always working to expand our communication capabilities in any way we can, from industry-specific e-mail newsletters, to sending text alerts and updates, to spreading our message on social media,” said Cales.
Teamsters Local 710 represents approximately 2,000 part time and full time workers at the Rockford UPS facility, which operates 24 hours a day.
