Local 710 Dockworker Returns to Work at YRC After Unreasonable Discharge

Teamsters Secure Member’s Reinstatement, Full Back Pay

A Teamsters Local 710 dockworker will return to work at YRC in Chicago Heights, Ill. after his unjust termination last August. An arbitrator ruled in favor of the union on June 22 after a hearing in February to have the member reinstated and made whole.

The member’s discharge was ruled unreasonable given that the employer was unable to fulfill their burden of proof in this case. The member recently returned to work with more than ten-months’ worth of back pay and benefits.

This grievance was extremely similar to another at YRC that an arbitrator ruled in favor of the union last month. Another dockworker was also unjustly discharged without proof, and the member returned to work with full back pay and benefits as well.

Our team at Local 710 is doing a phenomenal job of enforcing the contract at YRC and getting our members back to work. Moving forward, I hope that employers see more and more clearly that

the Teamsters will never back down when protecting our members’ rights.
