Local 710 Delegate Team Prepares for Teamsters International Convention

Elected Members Meet with Trustee Coli to Discuss Convention, Trusteeship

Teamsters Local 710 Trustee John T. Coli and Assistant to the Trustee Becky Strzechowski met Sunday with the local union’s elected delegates and alternate delegates to begin making preparations for the upcoming International Convention.

Coli and Strzechowski discussed the convention in general and the responsibilities of the delegates and alternates, as well as the state of the trusteeship and the financials of the local.

The meeting went well and was very informative. It was very fulfilling for the entire group to hear the details firsthand from John and Becky. We have a better understanding of the convention and the trusteeship itself and compliment the work Brother Coli is doing as our Trustee.

All team members will be attending the convention, though based on the rules from the Office of the Election Supervisor, Local 710 is currently entitled to 16 delegates and 22 alternate delegates. This means that the bottom four delegates on the team have become alternate delegates and are placed at the top of the alternate list.

The team is working to save Local 710 money as well. They had the option to stay at the convention for six nights, but voted to stay five instead to reduce the cost of the convention for the union. They also asked to receive the minimum per diem of $75 instead of $130.

We definitely appreciate the dedication our elected delegate team has to Local 710. We had an extremely productive meeting, and I look forward to continuing to work with the team as the convention draws closer.

Local 710 Delegate Team for the 2016 IBT International Convention

The 29th International Teamsters Convention will take place Monday, June 27-Friday, July 1 in Las Vegas. Teamsters are tasked with making proposals and changes to the Teamsters’ Constitution — a measure that may only be done at the International Convention — and discuss policies and ideas that members would like to see as a priority over the next five years.

Elected delegates are also tasked with nominating candidates for International Office: General President, General Secretary-Treasurer, Vice Presidents and Trustees.

Teamsters Local 710 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, America’s premier labor union for Chicago, Illinois and northwest Indiana.
