Forklift Rodeo at YRC Puts Local 710 Members to the Test
Chicago Heights Teamsters Demonstrate Strong Attention to Safety
Approximately 100 forklift-certified members of Teamsters Local 710 working at YRC participated in the Forklift Safety Challenge Event on Thursday, September 10.
The event challenged members to demonstrate their commitment to safety through three separate challenges: a written exam, pre-trip safety check and driving course. The driving course demanded the highest skill of members and offered the most points as reward, requiring six course problems to be completed in seven minutes or less. Teamsters had to successfully navigate a maze of cones, obstacles and safety tests to compete for the top score overall.
The special event took place at the YRC facility in Chicago Heights.
All participants received a Challenge Safety Pack that included a hat, gloves, safety glasses and t-shirt to commemorate the event. Local 710 member Brian Manka expertly completed the challenge in first place, winning a two-night stay in downtown Chicago for two with a $100 Visa gift card for dinner.
“It’s wonderful that an event promoting safety in the workplace had such a strong turnout,” said John T. Coli, Trustee of Local 710. “I know that our members at YRC pride themselves on working safely, and the Teamsters are proud of each of our members for stepping up to this challenge, and every day they go to work.”
