Jacob Van Horn, son of Teamsters Local 710 member Brent Van Horn and Jennie Van Horn, recently won the 2015-2016 James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship. Jacob is one of three Local 710 family members to receive a $1,000 scholarship awarded to high school seniors.

Jacob graduated high school this past spring in the top 10 of his class with a 4.0 GPA. He was on the varsity golf team and involved in the FFA (Future Farmers of America) organization. Jacob will attend Valparaiso University to pursue a degree in Meteorology, a subject he’s been in love with since he was around four years old.

“On behalf of everyone here at Local 710, we’d like to congratulate Jacob on winning this scholarship,” said Ron Dillon, Local 710 Business Agent for the Fort Wayne UPS facility. “It’s wonderful to see Teamster values instilled in an entire family like the Van Horns, and we know just how proud Brent is of his son.”

Jacob’s father, Brent, has been a Local 710 UPS Teamster for the past 22 years. Brent currently works as a Package Delivery Driver out of the UPS facility in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Tiffany Hill and Bayleigh White were also awarded this scholarship and will be featured in Local 710 publications in the upcoming weeks.

Teamsters Local 710 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, America’s premier labor union for Indiana and Illinois. Joint Council 25 is proud to support the James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund, established in 1999 to provide scholarships to the child or dependent of a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
