Local 710 Memo: UPS Driver Choice Program

MEMORANDUM

Date: Monday, March 9, 2026
To: Local 710 UPS Drivers
From: Teamsters Local 710
Re: Driver Choice Program

The Local has received several inquiries regarding UPS’s latest buyout offering, the Driver Choice Program (“DCP”). Initially, UPS excluded two locals from this program, including our own.

On February 18, the Local reached out to UPS to request a meeting to discuss the parameters necessary for the Union to accept this offering. After days of silence and lack of information from UPS, we finally spoke several times this week to reach a Letter of Agreement (“LOA”) that will allow Local 710 members to participate in the DCP while addressing and protecting the concerns the Local has had with these buyout programs.

Any member interested in the DCP must apply before Thursday, March 12 at 11:59pm ET. You may visit www.eepoint.com/upsdcp and follow the instructions in the letter you received from UPS to complete the application process.

As we have explained before, our contract has clear language that demands that the company secure approval from the Union on any plans of an economic nature that affect our members. Without it, UPS would have carte blanche to buyout members at its sole discretion, without needing to have any regard for seniority, work load, and impact to your pension – everything this Local works tirelessly to protect. This LOA:

  • Caps participation across 710’s jurisdiction, and gives consideration to the staffing needs at each Center;
  • Reaffirms the requirements of Article 27; and
  • Withdraws any protests or grievances pertaining to the 2025 Driver Voluntary Separation Program (“DVSP”) and cancels the pending arbitration.

At the end of the day, we understand the benefits the DCP provides members who are nearing retirement or looking to leave UPS. At the same time, we want to ensure our members at UPS are protected. We want to ensure your pension fund remains healthy to support all our members throughout their retirements. We want to fight against anything that would exacerbate 9.5 violations. Local 710 continues to remain unwavering in those commitments to our members.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigated this situation. If you have any questions or concerns, as always, please reach out to your Business Agent.
