2026 Scholarship Opportunities

The following scholarships are available to support Local 710 families. Please review the eligibility requirements for each scholarship carefully as each one varies. If you have questions, it is recommended that you contact the fund directly.

Teamsters Scholarship Fund

High School Seniors who will be graduating in the Spring of 2026 and will begin their secondary education in the Fall of 2026 (and are the son or daughter of a Teamster member in good standing) may apply now! Applications are due April 1, 2026!

James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Fund offers Academic scholarships for current high school seniors planning to attend college in the fall of 2026.  These scholarships range from $1,000 to $10,000.  Vocational/Training Program scholarships are also available ranging from $500 to $2,000.

William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship

Each year, the Chicago Federation of Labor awards 10 William A. Lee Memorial Scholarships to high school seniors, five to the winners of the Academic Competition, and five to the winners of the Random Drawing. Applicants must choose to enter either the Random Drawing or Academic Competition for the William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship. Students are not eligible to enter both categories.

The Chicago Federation of Labor renamed the scholarship in 1985 to honor Mr. William A. Lee, the CFL’s longest-serving president. Mr. Lee devoted over 60 years to the cause of labor, civic and community service, with 38 of those years at the CFL.

Deadline to Apply
Completed applications must be received by the Chicago Federation of Labor by 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026. Applications should be emailed to scholarship@chicagolabor.org. All parts of the application should be turned in at the same time.

Union Plus Scholarship

Application deadline: 12:00 PM (Noon, Eastern Standard Time), Wednesday January 31, 2026.

Since 1991, the Union Plus Scholarship Program has awarded more than $5.9 million to students of union families. Over 4,200 union families have benefited from our commitment to higher education.

Award amounts:  $500 to $4,000.  These one-time cash awards are for study beginning in the Fall of 2024. Students may re-apply each year.

Award date:  May 31, 2026. During the first week of June 2026 award recipients will be notified by postal mail, and all applicants will be sent email notification. 

Eligibility criteria:

  • Current and retired members of unions participating in any Union Plus program, their spouses and their dependent children (as defined by IRS regulations) are eligible. Grandchildren are not eligible unless a legal dependent (as defined by IRS regulations).  At least one year of continuous union membership by the applicant, applicant’s spouse or parent (if applicant is a dependent). The one year membership minimum must be satisfied by May 31, 2025.
  • Members of participating unions from the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada are eligible.
  • The applicant must be accepted into a U.S. accredited college, university, community college, technical or trade school at the time awards are issued. Awards must be used for the 2026 – 2027 school year.
  • Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply.

This program is offered through the Union Plus Education Foundation, which is sponsored by Union Privilege. The Foundation is funded in part by donations from Capital One N.A. (provider of the Union Plus Credit Card), First National Bank of Omaha (provider of the Union Plus Personal Loan), and Edvance and Western Governors University (providers of the Union Plus College Program). You do NOT need to participate in these programs to apply for this scholarship.
