Mike Cales, Secretary-Treasurer

710 Since 1991 • 710 Health, Welfare and Pension Fund Co-Chair

Cales has served as the Principal Officer of Local 710 since 2018. He started his 710 career as a dockman at Carolina Freight (now ABF) where he also served as a Union Steward, then came on at the Hall as a Business Agent in 2015. During his tenure as Secretary-Treasurer, Cales has helped grow the Local’s finances to over $11 million and has chaired several negotiating committees. He also serves as the Co-Chair of the Local 710 Health, Welfare, and Pension Funds, and continually works to secure benefit improvements for the Funds’ participants.

Tom Doyle, Business Agent

710 UPS SINCE 1991 • 15-YEAR STEWARD

Doyle’s career with UPS began in January 1991 as a part-time employee at the Lafayette, Indiana Center. In 1994, he became a Package Car Driver and later served as a Union Steward for 15 years. In 2024, he was hired as a Business Agent. He also served on the 710 Bargaining Committee during the 2023 UPS negotiations. Doyle primarily represents UPS members in North Central Indiana, as well as Kankakee, Illinois.

Bob Downey, Trustee

UPS SINCE 1984 • STEWARD SINCE 2009

Downey is a third generation Union member. He started his UPS career in 1984 during peak, worked both reload and preload, spent 20 years as a Package Car Driver, and has been a Feeder Driver since 2011. He was inducted into the UPS Circle of Honor for safe driving in 2014 and has served as a steward since 2009. He was elected Trustee in 2017 and served on the 2018 and 2023 UPS negotiating committees. He is a proud family man, married for 32 years with a son and two grandkids. Downey and his son also have a DJ business which has raised over $300,000 for cancer patients.

Marjock Fenner, Business Agent

710 UPS Since 1992

Fenner started as a seasonal UPS employee in 1991 until he was hired on full time in January of 1992 as a Package Car Driver and served as a Steward for 7 years. He was also elected as a Delegate to the 2021 International Convention. He served on the 710 UPS Negotiating Team in 2023 and was hired as a Business Agent in November 2024. He represents 710 members in Central and Southern Illinois.

Craig Friedrich, Business Agent

LOCAL 710 UPS SINCE 2002 • 8-YEAR ELECTED STEWARD

Friedrich started his UPS career in 2002 in Hammond, Ind. as a part time Loader and Air Driver. In 2004, he became a Feeder Driver at the Jeff Street facility in Chicago, where he also served as a Steward for 8 years. He was hired at the Union Hall as a Business Agent in 2020 and represents UPS, TForce Freight Road Drivers, and AWC members in the Chicagoland area. He served on the 2023 UPS Negotiating Committee for the Local and co-chairs a variety of grievance panels at 710.

Mike “Stump” Halvorson, Business Agent

Local 710 Freight Since 1994 • Steward for 15 Years

Halvorson began his 710 career at Yellow in 1994 as a Road Driver in Chicago Ridge. He came to the hall in 2018 when he started as a Business Agent. He was elected as a Business Agent in 2020, and also was an elected Delegate to the 2011, 2016, and 2021 Conventions. He represents members in freight and several other industries. Halvorson is also a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, having served 6 years as active duty.

Matt Hamilton, Business Agent

TEAMSTER SINCE 2006 • 5-YEAR ELECTED STEWARD

Hamilton started at UPS in October of 2001. Before he was appointed as a Business Agent in 2022, he worked as a Feeder Driver and served as a Steward at UPS Addison. He chairs several state panels and has experience as a volunteer organizer. Hamilton was an elected Delegate to the 2021 International Convention and served on the 2023 UPS Negotiating Committee. He represents UPS and carhaul members in the greater Chicagoland area.

Keith Kazluski, Business Agent & Organizer

Union since 1989 • Steward for 12 years

Kazluski started with the Union at Jewel in 1989. He has sat on numerous Jewel and other Local 710 bargaining committees fighting for stronger contracts. He came to the hall in 2021 as a Business Agent and Organizer, and was also an elected to the International Convention as a Delegate in 2011 and an Alternate Delegate in 2021. He also serves as a Local 710 Delegate with the Chicago Federation Of Labor.

Mike Krause, Business Agent

Local 710 Freight since 1999 • 21-Year Steward

Krause started his Union career as a dock worker at ABF in 1999, where he served as a Union Steward for 21 years. He was part of the 2008 ABF negotiating team and has worked as a Business Agent since December of 2023. He represents members across a wide variety of industries, including freight, warehouse, and clerical.

Mike Lloyd, Organizer

Local 710 Since 1998 • 27-Year Steward

Lloyd has been a proud member of Local 710 since 1998 when he started as a Driver for Sysco Chicago. He served as a Steward for 27 years and sat on 5 Sysco negotiating committees. He was also elected as a Delegate for two Conventions and served as Sergeant at Arms for a third. Lloyd started as an Organizer with the IBT before coming on staff at 710 in 2023, and he has worked dillegently to bring hundreds of new members into Local 710.

John Maubach, Business Agent

Local 710 UPS Since 1991 • Steward for 19 Years

Maubach started at UPS Bloomington as a part-timer in 1991. After 4 years, he became a Package Car Driver for 30 years. He served as a Union Steward for 19 years before starting as a Business Agent in February 2025. He was elected as a Delegate to the 2021 International Convention and was a committee member for the 2023 UPS Negotiating team. Maubach represents UPS members throughout Illinois and Davenport, IA.

Neil McKinney, Vice President & Business Agent

Local 710 UPS Since 1994, Steward for 17 years

McKinney worked as a Package Car Driver out of the UPS Evansville facility for over two decades. He served as a steward for 17 years there before joining the Local 710 team in 2016. McKinney was elected as Vice President in 2020 and sits as a Trustee on the Local 710 Health, Welfare, and Pension Funds, as well as President of the 710 Scholarship Fund. He represents 710 members in southern Illinois and Indiana.

Simon McNamara, Business Agent

Local 710 UPS Since 1984, Steward for 12 years

McNamara began his UPS career in 1984 at the Rockford, Ill. facility. He became a package car driver in 1989 and served as a Local 710 steward for twelve years before joining the UPS team as a Business Agent in February 2015. He was elected as a Business Agent in 2017. He represents UPS members in northern Illinois, including the facilities in Rockford where he worked.

Mike Ramirez, Recording Secretary & Business Agent

Teamster since 1997, Business Agent since 2013

Ramirez has been with the Teamsters since 1997. He worked as a driver before becoming a Business Agent with Local 743. He is a familiar face at Local 710, having driven for Local 710 companies including Sysco Chicago and being active at membership meetings. Ramirez was elected as Recording Secretary in 2020, and he represents members in a variety of industries as a Business Agent. He also serves as Local 710 Political Coordinator, Executive Vice President for the Chicago Teamsters Hispanic Caucus and Recording Secretary on the National THC, and speaks fluent Spanish.

Phil Reams, Trustee & Business Agent

Local 710 Freight Teamster since 1990

Reams has been a Teamster since 1990, starting on the dock with Carolina Freight (now ABF). He has a great deal of experience representing the members as a steward and attending grievances. While working at ABF, he became a trained spotter. He was elected as a Trustee in 2017 and also serves as a Business Agent. He attended the International Convention in 2011 as an Alternate Delegate and in 2021 as a Delegate. Reams also sits as an Alternate Trustee on the Local 710 Health, Welfare, and Pension Funds.

Del Schaefer, President & Business Agent

Local 710 UPS Since 1989, Steward for 20 Years

Schaefer began his union career at UPS in 1989. He became a driver five years later and became a steward at the same time. He started as a Business Agent in 2014 and was elected President in 2017. He has served on four Local 710 bargaining committees for the UPS Contract, including chairing the 2018 and 2023 negotiations. Schaefer also serves as a Trustee on the Local 710 Health, Welfare, and Pension Funds, as well as the CTDU Funds.

Gabe Stephan, Business Agent

Local 710 Since 2003 • 19-Year Steward

Stephan started his 710 career as a driver for Southern Wine & Spirits in 2003. He served as a Union Steward for 19 years before being hired as a Business Agent at the hall in 2023. He served as a Delegate to the IBT Conventions in 2011 and 2016 and has also worked as a Volunteer Organizer for over 20 years. Stephan represents members across a wide range of industries including liquor distribution, warehousing, and promotional products.

Justin Vaughn, Business Agent & Organizer

Intermodal Worker for 10+ Years, Rail Agent & 710 Organizer

Vaughn started his Teamster career working to help organize his own rail ramp as an intermodal worker. He has also worked as an organizer with the IBT and is now a 710 Business Agent representing a number of different industries. He works dilligently to hold rail contractors accountable, successfully maintaining around 98% of members with their wages and seniority when bids change hands while also negotiating improved safety and training policies and reducing “under bidding.” He also serves as Vice President of the Local 710 Scholarship Fund.
